About the Role

We are expanding our Enterprise Limits & Restrictions (ELR) engineering team and are seeking a highly motivated Senior Software Engineer to help build and support Wellington's investment compliance and trading controls platform. The ELR platform plays a critical role in safeguarding investment decisions and trading activity by ensuring compliance with firmwide, client, and regulatory restrictions. Beyond compliance controls, the team is responsible for key elements of Wellington's trading technology ecosystem, including the FIX connectivity infrastructure that enables real-time communication between Wellington and broker-dealers, and external trading venues around the globe. This role offers a unique opportunity to work at the intersection of compliance and trading technology. Engineers on the team solve complex business and technical challenges, collaborate with stakeholders across various business and technology groups such as Legal and Compliance, Derivatives Onboarding, Trading and Investment Technology.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the technical design, development, deployment, and support of the Enterprise Limits & Restrictions (ELR) platform
  • Develop and maintain scalable, reliable, and secure backend services supporting workflows that evaluate regulatory, client and firmwide restrictions
  • Work closely with Project Managers, Business Analysts, Technical Leads, and Quality Engineering teams on estimation, planning, delivery, issue resolution, and risk management
  • Support tier-1 production systems, troubleshoot complex issues, and drive continuous improvements in system stability, performance, and scalability
  • Promote engineering excellence through code reviews, mentoring, automated testing, observability, and modern development practices
  • Stay current with evolving industry and technical trends, including AI-assisted development tools, to ensure systems and team are of the highest caliber
  • Participate in the modernization and enhancement of compliance platforms, helping to drive innovation and operational efficiency across the investment technology ecosystem

Requirements

  • 7–10+ years of hands-on software development experience using Java and J2EE technologies (currently utilizing Java 17; Java 11 experience is acceptable)
  • Strong experience with Spring and Spring Boot frameworks
  • Solid understanding of distributed, multi-threaded, and high-performance systems
  • Experience designing, developing, and supporting RESTful APIs and event-driven architectures
  • Experience with AWS cloud technologies and CI/CD pipelines, including Jenkins, is highly desirable
  • Experience building highly available systems supporting critical business workflows
  • Experience with complex event processing (Esper Framework) is an added advantage
  • Demonstrated use of AI-assisted development tools (e.g., GitHub Copilot, Claude Code) to improve development productivity and code quality
  • Strong communication, analytical, design, problem-solving, and data modeling skills
  • Experience with software development lifecycle methodologies and automated testing
  • Ability to collaborate effectively across business and technology teams
