About the Role

This role supports laboratory analysis and materials characterization in a glass research and manufacturing environment. It involves hands-on laboratory work, including devitrification testing, microscopy analysis, and sample preparation to assist engineers and scientists.

Responsibilities

  • Perform optical microscopy analysis including stereomicroscopy and polarized light microscopy
  • Conduct petrographic analysis to identify crystalline phases
  • Prepare glass and refractory samples through cutting, mounting, epoxying, grinding, and polishing
  • Support analytical testing using SEM/EDX and X-Ray Diffraction (XRD)
  • Analyze and image prepared samples while maintaining accurate documentation
  • Compile data and prepare reports for engineering and scientific teams
  • Manage sample tracking, workload prioritization, and turnaround timelines
  • Support laboratory operations, equipment readiness, and supply management

Requirements

  • 0-3 years of experience in a laboratory, materials analysis, or related technical environment
  • Ability to independently perform work using established procedures
  • Ability to collaborate with scientists and engineers to resolve technical challenges
  • Ability to lift 10-25 lbs
  • Must be able to commute and work onsite in Corning, NY
  • Must be able to work on a W2 Tax basis
