About the Role
As a Lead Software Engineer, you will lead the build of key technical projects that keep Deputy’s production platform reliable, safe, and recoverable, progressing the company mission of improving customers' business productivity, wage compliance, and employee satisfaction. You will be part of the Platform team, focusing on the reliability and security of system services and infrastructure, and collaborating with security and engineering leadership to build foundational systems and architecture.
Responsibilities
- Lead the team that builds paved paths to enable other engineering teams to build secure and reliable services.
- Make technical decisions and own the roadmap across platform reliability and infrastructure security, including observability, incident management, cloud & network security, and infrastructure vulnerabilities.
- Encourage innovation and continuous improvement in reliability (alert hygiene, MTTR, DORA) and security (vulnerability remediation, hardening coverage).
- Uphold high engineering, quality, and security standards, including encryption and DR/BCP execution.
- Collaborate with other business parts to discover and estimate solution options for strategic initiatives.
- Accountability for delivering technical solutions within estimated timeframes.
- Operate in a get-things-done, value-demonstrating, iterative manner.
- Influence and problem-solve with engineers to deliver high-quality outcomes, providing technical leadership and mentorship.
- Contribute to driving standards, ways of working, and platform decision-making as a key member of the technical leadership team.
- Act as a player-coach.
Requirements
- Proven experience establishing a strong platform operations function from the ground up, including authoring incident response playbooks, defining SLOs/SLIs, and driving a culture of reliability.
- Deep technical expertise in infrastructure security and site reliability for complex, highly isolated environments.
- Hands-on experience securing Kubernetes clusters, implementing network policies for cell-based architectures, and translating InfoSec policies into automated infrastructure guardrails.
- Experience with SAST & DAST, CI/CD pipelines, and associated security toolings (e.g. GitHub, GitLab, Jenkins, Snyk).
- Experience building and testing Disaster Recovery/Business Continuity Plans in AWS across multiple regions.
- Experience with authentication & authorization platforms, CIAM, OAuth2, OpenID, and ensuring high customer security posture.
- Proven leadership in driving projects from concept to delivery, working cross-functionally with product managers, designers, and engineering teams.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or equivalent experience.
- 6+ years of experience in DevSecOps.
- 2+ years of experience as a lead/staff engineer.
