About the Role
Dandelion Chocolate is seeking a Director of Stores to lead its growing café and store operations. This role is responsible for positioning Dandelion as the premier destination for craft chocolate, streamlining operations, and cultivating a high-performing team. The Director will oversee West Coast operations, focusing on daily operations rather than new location design and build-out.
Responsibilities
- Lead and expand store operations, including hiring, training, visual merchandising, inventory management, and hospitality standards.
- Develop systems and training protocols to improve hospitality and retail service standards, ensuring guests feel welcome and informed.
- Track and achieve revenue goals, labor costs, and contribution targets while maintaining positive reviews and team retention.
- Create systems and processes to ensure consistent café operations across all locations.
- Develop and roll out comprehensive training programs for new team members.
- Manage team retention, support first-line managers, foster a sense of belonging, and establish clear advancement paths for store staff.
- Create merchandising guidelines adaptable for specific location needs.
- Assist in building revenue targets, labor forecasts, and capital/operational expenditure plans.
- Regularly visit assigned locations to identify issues, coach in real-time, and foster a consistent store culture.
- Continuously improve and standardize systems to support future expansion.
- Provide weekly status reports to the leadership team on trends, forecasts, and potential challenges.
- Meet regularly with store managers to stay informed about their teams.
- Perform other tasks as necessary.
Requirements
- Experience managing teams, including coaching, motivating, and strengthening managers, leads, and associates.
- Willingness to work nonstandard hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, as stores operate 7 days a week.
- Over 3 years of management experience in premium store and/or café operations.
- Proficiency in learning new systems, analyzing sales data (e.g., Square), and creating revenue forecast spreadsheets.
- Strong familiarity with Google Suite and advanced spreadsheet functions (VLOOKUP/INDEX/MATCH).
- Understanding of basic financial principles, including creating revenue forecasts and labor plans.
- Excellent active listening skills and the ability to clearly communicate complex topics to diverse audiences.
- A positive, can-do, servant-oriented approach.
