About the Role
As a Safety Superintendent at MSC Cruise Management, you will be the driving force behind safety excellence across assigned vessels. You will ensure the highest standards of safety, compliance, and operational readiness by working closely with shipboard teams and fleet management. Your role involves overseeing fire prevention, lifesaving, and fire-fighting systems, promoting a strong safety culture, and ensuring vessels meet company and regulatory requirements.
Responsibilities
- Conduct regular inspections to verify Company Safety Standards and compliance with class and statutory requirements.
- Monitor and inspect Fire Risk Procedures, safety drills, and fire risk inspections.
- Oversee and monitor the general maintenance of lifesaving and firefighting appliances.
- Ensure all safety-related documents are up to date and maintain accurate records for audits.
- Monitor daily operations aboard vessels for adherence to company policies, maritime safety standards, and international regulations.
- Maintain consistent communication with the Ship’s Master, Staff Captain, and Safety Officer.
- Prepare and track annual budgets for ship safety parts.
- Attend and oversee Dry Docking activities related to safety equipment and systems.
- Review and update maintenance schedules based on ship survey findings.
- Monitor the performance of audits and inspections concerning non-conformities.
- Track, monitor, and ensure the timely completion of outstanding points and work items from safety inspections.
- Manage the implementation, compliance, and continuous improvement of ISO 45001 standards.
- Develop and implement amendments to policies and procedures to ensure compliance with new regulations and recommended practices.
Requirements
- Experience as a Safety Officer on cruise ships is essential.
- Fluency in English, both oral and written.
- In-depth understanding of the ISM Code (International Safety Management) and Structural Fire Protection standards.
- Studies in Nautical College.
- Certified as First Officer over 3000 GRT.
Skills
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office tools (Power-Bi, Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
- Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team.
- Demonstrated accuracy and strong attention to detail.
