About the Role
Wizcorp is a highly specialized game development studio based in Tokyo, operating 100% remotely. We are a passionate, cross-cultural team dedicated to bringing magic back to game development. This position requires residency in Japan for the duration of employment with Wizcorp.
Responsibilities
- Complete assigned engineering tasks within deadlines.
- Test and document provided solutions for review and learning by other developers.
- Write clear, maintainable code that passes review by senior engineers.
- Estimate own tasks and complete them within deadlines.
- Report impediments to the feature lead or project lead.
- Follow software engineering best practices throughout the software development lifecycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source code management, and testing.
- Take ownership of features by breaking them down into manageable tasks for self and others.
- Coordinate with members outside the engineering team to deliver features within deadlines.
Requirements
- Several years of professional software development experience.
- C++ and C# as core programming languages, potentially using 1-2 other languages in daily work.
- Comfortable diving deep into engines and codebases for improvements.
- Ability to design, test, and debug own code without assistance from other engineers.
- Ability to break down features into engineering tasks and collaborate with others to complete them.
- Interest in working on both the game itself and its surrounding tools.
- Confidence in communicating with all members of the company.
- University degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
- For candidates residing in Japan: 3+ years of professional software engineering experience and 1+ year of experience in the game industry.
- For candidates residing outside Japan: 7+ years of professional software engineering experience and 4+ years of experience in the game industry.
- Demonstrable software engineering capabilities.
- Experience with Git or other version control systems.
- Experience with multiple programming languages.
- Japanese language proficiency of conversational level or higher (JLPT N3 or above) for candidates residing in Japan.
- English proficiency (able to read, write, and discuss technical matters).
Skills
- Excellent knowledge of software development fundamentals, design theory, and development processes.
- Excellent debugging skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Willingness to work as part of a team and contribute to technical discussions.
- Proactive in learning from reviews and constructive feedback.
- Excellent personal time management skills.
- Experience with game engines such as Unity, Unreal, or proprietary engine code.
- Understanding of 2D and 3D mathematics.
- Experience with Go is desirable.
- Experience with C++.
- Experience with C#.
- Experience with Git.
- Japanese language proficiency (JLPT N3 or above).
- English language proficiency.

Salary/Compensations
- JPY 4,200,000 - JPY 6,600,000
