About the Role

Wizcorp is seeking a Game Engine Programmer to join an exciting project for next-generation consoles. Your role will be tailored to your experience, fitting within our team's structure. We are a passionate, cross-cultural team dedicated to bringing magic back to game development, operating as a 100% remote studio based in Tokyo.

Responsibilities

  • Review code written by other engineers to ensure quality standards are met.
  • Develop systems and utilities for our custom engine.
  • Integrate rendering engines or implement new engine features.
  • Perform architectural changes to the codebase.
  • Work on save data management, job systems, memory management, or development support features.
  • Estimate and complete tasks by deadlines.
  • Write clear, maintainable code that passes reviews by senior engineers.
  • Report impediments to the project lead.
  • Test and document solutions for other developers to review and learn from.
  • Implement and maintain software engineering best practices throughout the software development lifecycle.
  • Take ownership of broad areas of the codebase or large, complex features.
  • Take ownership of mission-critical areas of the codebase.
  • Coordinate with members outside the engineering team to deliver features by deadlines.
  • Determine the feasibility of large features and propose solutions.
  • Provide solid programming expertise to realize large feature and architectural proposals.
  • Conduct code review analysis to anticipate problems in design and implementation, leveraging all relevant experience.

  • For candidates residing in Japan: 3+ years of professional software engineering experience and 2+ years of custom engine development experience.
  • For candidates residing outside Japan: 7+ years of professional software engineering experience and 5+ years of custom engine development experience.
  • Solid software engineering capabilities (excellent code quality, knowledge of various coding patterns, etc.).
  • Extensive C++ experience and proficiency in C# (WPF).
  • Familiarity with source code control systems (Git, SVN, Perforce, etc.).
  • Japanese language proficiency (conversational level or higher - JLPT N3 or above).
  • English proficiency (able to read, write, and discuss technical matters).
  • Experience with languages such as Ruby, Python, shell scripting (Bash, PowerShell, etc.).
  • Experience with other game engines like Unreal, Unity, or proprietary engines.
  • 3+ years of experience in the game industry.
  • Development experience on at least one released game title.
  • Must reside in Japan during employment with Wizcorp.
  • Legal support for visa applications will be provided.

  • Annual salary based on experience and interview evaluation
