About the Role
Wizcorp is seeking an Unreal Engine (4 and 5) Programmer to join an exciting project for next-generation consoles. Your experience will determine your specific role within our team.
Responsibilities
- Review code written by other engineers to ensure it meets quality standards.
- Implement clean and extensible operating systems for consoles.
- Investigate and improve performance on target platforms by modifying the game and engine.
- Test updated code on target platforms to verify accuracy and performance.
- Estimate and complete own tasks within deadlines.
- Write clear, maintainable code that passes reviews by senior engineers.
- Report impediments to the project lead.
- Test and document provided solutions for review and learning by other developers.
- Implement and maintain software engineering best practices throughout the software development lifecycle.
- Take responsibility for broad areas of the codebase and large, complex features.
- Take ownership of mission-critical areas of the codebase.
- Coordinate with members outside the engineering team to deliver features on time.
- Determine the feasibility of large features and propose solutions.
- Provide solid programming expertise to realize large features and architectural proposals.
- Analyze code reviews to anticipate design and implementation issues, leveraging all relevant experience.
Requirements
- Several years of hands-on experience with Unreal Engine.
- Experience releasing console games.
- Comfortable with C++ as a common language.
- Willingness to dive deep into the engine itself and improve it.
- Ability to design, test, and debug own code without assistance from other engineers.
- Ability to break down large features into engineering tasks and collaborate with other engineers to complete them.
- Ability to mentor engineers on software development best practices.
- Interest in working on both the game itself and its tools.
- Communicate confidently with all members of the company.
- Ability to write clean, readable, and performant code and design architectures based on it.
- Excellent debugging and optimization skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

- Experience with Unreal Online Subsystem development.
- Familiarity with Unreal Engine internals and knowledge of how to customize it.
- Development for PlayStation platforms.
- Development for Microsoft platforms.
- Familiarity with other target platforms (Nintendo, PC, Mobile).
- University degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or related field, or equivalent practical experience.
- For candidates residing in Japan: 3+ years of professional software engineering experience, 2+ years of professional Unreal Engine 4 experience, and 2+ years of professional console game development experience (including use of test kits and dev kits).
- For candidates residing outside Japan: 7+ years of professional software engineering experience, 6+ years of professional Unreal Engine 4 experience, and 6+ years of professional console game development experience (including use of test kits and dev kits).
- Solid software engineering capabilities (e.g., excellent code quality, knowledge of various coding patterns).
- Extensive experience debugging in C++ and Unreal Engine.
- Proficiency with source code control systems (e.g., Git, SVN, Perforce).
- Japanese language proficiency of conversational level or higher - JLPT N3 or above.
- English proficiency (able to read, write, and discuss technical matters).
- Experience with some of the following languages: C#, Ruby, Python, shell scripting (Bash, PowerShell, etc.).
- Familiarity with Unreal Engine's build pipeline.
- Experience with other game engines such as Unity, proprietary engines, etc.
- Development experience on released game titles (minimum 1 title).
