About the Role
The Executive Manager, Community leads WSI’s community engagement strategy, ensuring transparency, accessibility and accountability while building awareness, understanding and support for airport operations. The role develops and delivers innovative engagement and communication programs that keep communities informed and connected to WSI, strengthening WSI’s reputation and supporting the airport’s broader role in driving social and economic growth in the region. The position provides strategic leadership across WSI, delivery partners and community stakeholders, fostering trusted relationships and promoting open, transparent engagement around key airport developments. The role also leads community engagement and partnership programs to help local communities benefit from opportunities created by WSI and the surrounding precinct.
Responsibilities
- Lead and influence the delivery of community engagement and partnerships agenda aligned to the scale and significance of WSI.
- Apply strong understanding of Western Sydney’s business, community and stakeholder landscape to establish high-impact partnerships that maximise community and outcomes.
- Proactively manage reputational risk, ensuring all engagement and partnership activities deliver consistent, positive outcomes.
- Manage the Community Aviation Consultative Group which is a statutorily required body.
- Lead partnerships with key stakeholders and oversee STEM scholarship initiatives across schools.
- Drive engagement with First Nations communities in Western Sydney as a core pillar of the sustainability agenda, including delivery of the Muru training and employment pathways program.
- Represent WSI externally, strengthening relationships with community members, partners and stakeholders.
- Build and maintain strong internal relationships, including with senior leaders, to drive alignment, trust and support for community-focused initiatives.
- Oversee the planning and delivery of high-quality, safe community events that enhance the airports visibility and reputation.
- Lead the development and implementation of evaluation and reporting frameworks to measure engagement effectiveness, track sentiment and demonstrate return on investment.
- Ensure compliance with all regulatory obligations relating to community and stakeholder engagement.
- Lead and develop the Community Engagement team, driving performance, accountability and alignment with organisational priorities.
- Manage team plans, budgets and risk frameworks, ensuring strong governance, cost control and continuous improvement.
- Champion a strong safety culture, prioritising the safety of employees, partners and the community in all activities.
Requirements
- Tertiary degree qualification or equivalent relevant industry experience.
- At least 10 years of experience in community and/or stakeholder engagement, with recent years at a leadership level.
- Outstanding leadership skills and demonstrated experience inspiring and empowering team members to achieve professional excellence.
- Excellent skills and experience building trusting and collaborative relationships with internal and external stakeholders, with empathy, integrity and authenticity.
- Highly developed verbal and written communication skills and demonstrated experience applying these skills to engage and influence a range of community and stakeholder audiences regarding complex issues.
- Ability to negotiate and influence effectively.
- Proven capability in effective communication, building business insights, a highly analytical and organised approach, and the ability to execute on work effectively and independently.
- A keen sense of initiative by being a self-starter, with a proactive approach to tasks and collaborations.
- Have a quality-orientation that’s focused on proactivity and accuracy.
- A forward-thinking mindset that integrates AI and emerging technology to drive positive workflows and strategic outcomes.
- Ability to deal with ambiguity, complexity and critical thinking, taking an enterprise approach with strategic awareness, customer focused and outcome orientation.
