About the Role

Preparation, service, and cleanup of meals for children at the Center for Generations, ensuring compliance with CACFP requirements and associated paperwork. Responsibilities also include cleaning and organizing common areas. This role operates under the direct supervision of the Director and Assistant Director.

Responsibilities

  • Plans breakfast and afternoon snack weekly.
  • Orders food to provide nutritious, program-required meals for children.
  • Inventories, stocks, and orders bathroom and kitchen supplies.
  • Completes compliance paperwork, including fridge/freezer temperature logs, menu documentation, and food preparation tracking.
  • Maintains cleanliness of the kitchen and common areas.
  • Ensures all foods are labeled according to program requirements and maintains food safety.
  • Collaborates with St. John’s United kitchen staff for lunch, supporting meal rotation, receiving lunch, and returning items.
  • Participates in all required CACFP trainings.
  • Serves prepared lunch to children while maintaining food safety and CACFP compliance.
  • Completes assigned education within the first year to achieve childcare provider I status.
  • Assists in classrooms when necessary once childcare I status is obtained.
  • Helps with other duties as assigned to cover breaks or staffing shortages.
  • Complies with all St. John’s United policies, state and federal laws, and regulations regarding childcare services, health, and safety.
  • Attends staff meetings, workshops, and training.
  • Identifies the need for supplies and equipment, ensuring equipment and facilities are clean and in good repair.
  • Fosters the developmental growth of all children (physical, cognitive, social, and emotional).
  • Provides opportunities for children's engagement in various activities including group interactions, play, rest, and meals.

Requirements

  • Must have a high school diploma or HiSet.
  • At least one year of experience with food safety, ordering/purchasing, and proper sanitation methods.
  • ServSafe Certified or willingness to be ServSafe Certified within the first 30 days.
  • Must be comfortable working around children in a childcare facility.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with a variety of audiences in both verbal and written formats.
  • Must have good time management.
  • Flexible and able to work cooperatively with children, coworkers, and family members under stressful conditions.
  • Proficient in safe food handling.
  • Ability to understand and complete meal prep and portions.
  • Must be able to stand, bend, kneel, twist, and lift for prolonged periods.
  • Must be able to lift 30 pounds regularly and up to 50 pounds occasionally.
  • Must be able to work around plants and animals.
