About the Role
Prepares and serves food items, specialty coffee, and other beverages with exceptional customer service. Supervises, trains, schedules, and directs staff and volunteers, providing greeter functions for the organization's entrance.
Responsibilities
- Creates, maintains, and changes menu selections and coordinates procurement and/or production of products.
- Manages inventory, stocking, and purchasing process for all Common Grounds sites.
- Manages the use of and training for Point of Sale system.
- Coordinates transitions and cross-training between Common Grounds and the Bistro.
- Greets guests and customers, takes orders, and mixes/serves hot and cold beverages.
- Maintains exceptional customer relations and timely order delivery.
- Stocks and maintains inventories of products or organizational resources.
- Tracks and records inventory, consumer, and retail sales.
- Resolves customer complaints or problems.
- Manages and processes customer payments accurately.
- Ensures schedule coverage.
- Ensures sanitation levels are acceptable and food is handled and prepared safely.
- Reviews financial statements, sales, and activity reports to measure productivity and identify cost reduction areas.
- Directs and coordinates activities concerned with production, pricing, sales, or distribution of products.
- Monitors vendors to ensure efficient and effective provision of goods/services within budget.
- Manages profit and loss within a budget for sustainability.
- Greets all guests and residents.
- Assists guests with wayfinding and basic organization information.
- Creates a welcoming atmosphere by socializing with residents and guests.
- Supervises day-to-day work activities of staff by delegating authority, assigning and prioritizing activities, and monitoring operating standards.
- Trains new staff and identifies/trains shift leaders.
- Manages by providing positive and constructive feedback to volunteers.
- Generates and maintains staff and volunteer schedules.
- Utilizes software to schedule, track, and communicate with staff.
- Participates in annual staff and volunteer recognition events and provides ongoing recognition.
- Maintains clean work areas, utensils, and equipment.
- Practices appropriate sanitation and safety techniques in accordance with Serv Safe.
- Obtains Serv Safe Certification.
- Practices appropriate knife and equipment safety at all times.
- Performs daily and weekly cleaning duties.
- Labels all foods appropriately.
- Protects equipment, utensils, food, and other items of inventory from contamination, spoilage, and pilferage.
- Reports accidents and injuries in a timely manner.
- Obeys safety rules.
- Identifies, reports, and/or corrects obvious safety hazards.
- Attends mandatory safety in-services.
- Supports the growth and actively engages in the Eden Alternative philosophy.
- Follows the St. John’s Guidelines for Customer Service.
- Follows policy and procedures on annual TB testing.
- Follows policy and procedures on annual influenza vaccinations.
- Attends all mandatory in-services.
- Has daily contact with potential residents and their families.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- Two years’ experience in managing a coffee shop or equivalent food and beverage establishment.
- Knowledge of food and beverage preparation and sanitation.
- Knowledge of day-to-day operations of a coffee and bistro establishment.
- Proven face-to-face customer service experience.
- Retail supervision and management experience.
- Ability to understand written and verbal communication.
- Ability to communicate and interact effectively in a professional manner.
- Knowledge of scheduling staff.
- Skill in organization, coordinating, and time management.
- Ability to understand and follow safety policies and procedures.
- Ability to respond to management and staff/volunteer needs in a timely and professional manner.
- Ability to analyze data and financial records to inform operational decisions and improve efficiency.
- Must have an entrepreneurial spirit.
- Ability to communicate and articulate the Mission of St. John’s.
- Performs job tasks following established procedures and reports problems.
