About the Role

This is a working manager position with time split between direct care and nurse management. Manages the day-to-day nursing operations of a specified clinical unit when on shift, including coordination of patient care and supervision of a professional team. Ensures adherence to policies, procedures, standards, and practices. This position will be the direct supervisor of the Nurses in the Skilled Cottages.

Responsibilities

  • Oversees the supervision of Nurses in Skilled cottages, including work allocation, training, promotion, enforcement of internal procedures and controls, and problem solving.
  • Evaluates performance and makes recommendations for personnel actions.
  • Coaches, educates, evaluates, and counsels assigned employees.
  • Works side-by-side with Nurses, Med aids and CNA as the leader of the care team to provide and supervise direct elder care and assessment.
  • Ensures quality control of area nursing operations.
  • On call 1 weekend a month.
  • Trains and educates nurses in skilled cottages as appropriate.
  • Coordinates in-service training, continuing education, orientation, competency reviews, and other related training functions.
  • Works closely with physicians to determine appropriate care.
  • Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
  • Assists in recruiting, interviewing, hiring, coaching, counseling, and evaluating Nurse personnel.
  • Interprets and enforces the department’s policies and procedures to personnel, residents, families, visitors, and government agencies.
  • Reviews personnel complaints and grievances and ensures consistent treatment of personnel.
  • Participates in committee functions as assigned by Director of Nursing.
  • Is part of the Leadership Development Group.
  • Maintains the confidentiality of all Elder care information.
  • Obeys safety rules.
  • Identifies, reports, and/or corrects obvious safety hazards.
  • Attends mandatory safety in-services.
  • Utilizes proper body mechanics when transferring Elders.
  • Follows established policies and procedures when exposed to blood/body fluids.
  • Wears and/or uses safety equipment and supplies.
  • Supports the growth and actively engages in the Eden Alternative philosophy.
  • Follows the St. John’s Guidelines for Customer Service.
  • Follows policy and procedures on annual TB testing.
  • Follows policy and procedures on annual influenza vaccinations.
  • Attends all mandatory in-services as assigned.
  • Attends and participates in scheduled training and educational classes to maintain license.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Must be licensed as a Registered Nurse or a Licensed Practical Nurse in the State of Montana.
  • Must be CPR certified.
  • Three years’ experience that is directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified is preferred.

  • Ability to develop and present educational programs and/or workshops.
  • Knowledge of budgeting, cost estimating, and fiscal management principles and procedures.
  • Knowledge of faculty and/or staff hiring procedures.
