About the Role
The Modernisation Sales Engineer identifies, develops, and secures HVAC retrofit, upgrade, and modernisation opportunities within existing commercial and industrial buildings. This role drives growth by selling HVAC equipment replacements, controls upgrades, energy efficiency improvements, and lifecycle modernisation projects. It requires a strong understanding of HVAC systems and building services, with the ability to engage building owners, facility managers, consultants, and contractors to create technically sound and commercially competitive solutions. The successful candidate will leverage the existing service customer base while pursuing new business in the Sydney metropolitan market.
Responsibilities
- Identify and develop HVAC retrofit, modernisation, and lifecycle upgrade opportunities across commercial, healthcare, education, industrial, and government sectors.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with customers, consultants, facility managers, asset owners, and mechanical contractors.
- Conduct site assessments to identify HVAC improvement opportunities, including equipment replacement, energy efficiency upgrades, and asset optimisation.
- Develop tailored technical solutions and business cases aligned with customer operational objectives and sustainability goals.
- Prepare and deliver competitive technical and commercial proposals, collaborating with engineering and project delivery teams.
- Manage opportunities through the full sales lifecycle, from qualification and solution development to contract award.
- Maintain accurate sales pipelines, forecasts, and market intelligence while achieving revenue and growth targets.
- Support seamless project handover by collaborating with operational teams to ensure successful delivery and customer satisfaction.
Requirements
- Proven experience selling HVAC projects, retrofit solutions, upgrades, or building services solutions within commercial environments.
- Strong technical understanding of commercial HVAC systems, including chillers, AHUs, FCUs, cooling towers, pumps, BMS, and controls.
- Demonstrated ability to identify, develop, and manage project opportunities through the full sales lifecycle.
- Experience preparing technical proposals, quotations, and solution-based recommendations aligned with customer requirements.
- Strong customer relationship management, negotiation, and stakeholder engagement skills.
- Ability to interpret technical drawings, specifications, and develop practical HVAC solutions.
- Strong commercial acumen with a disciplined approach to sales pipeline management and achieving targets.
- Relevant engineering or HVAC trade background, with experience in service, maintenance, modernisation, or project sales environments highly regarded.
- Strong organisational, planning, problem-solving, and analytical capabilities with the ability to manage competing priorities.
- Tertiary qualification in Engineering, Construction Management, Project Management, or a related discipline, with experience delivering upgrade, modernisation, or infrastructure projects highly regarded.
