About the Role

The Nurse Practitioner (NP) provides comprehensive clinical care to patients in designated service or program areas, partnering with the healthcare team for person and family-centered care. The NP functions as the most responsible healthcare provider (MRHCP), autonomously diagnosing, ordering and interpreting tests, prescribing pharmaceuticals, and performing procedures. They provide direct care, monitor physical, biologic, psychologic, and spiritual needs, and integrate these into holistic care plans, engaging with family, community, and other agencies as needed. The NP adheres to the NSCN Standards for Nursing Practice and the Code of Ethics, is accountable for their practice, and identifies and evaluates quality improvement initiatives.

Responsibilities

Provide comprehensive clinical care to patients in designated service or program areas.
Partner with and complement other members of the health care team for person and family-centered care.
Diagnose, order and interpret laboratory tests.
Order and interpret reports of diagnostic imaging investigations.
Prescribe pharmaceuticals.
Perform procedures.
Provide direct care and monitor the physical/biologic, psychologic, and spiritual needs of patients.
Integrate patient needs into holistic care plans.
Engage with family, community, and other agencies/services as appropriate.
Adhere to the NSCN Standards for Nursing Practice and the Code of Ethics.
Be responsible and accountable for own practice consistent with relevant legislation, and professional, and ethical standards.
Identify, analyze, and evaluate activities that are reflective of quality improvement initiatives.

Requirements

Masters' of Nursing – Advanced Nursing Practice stream.
Registered with the Nova Scotia College Nurses with active-practicing status, or eligible for registration.
License to practice as an NP in Nova Scotia.
Current certification in BCLS or willingness to obtain.
