About the Role

Anvil is seeking an individual to ensure the continuous operation of their robots, troubleshoot issues, and communicate technical details effectively to both leadership and customers. This role is crucial for maintaining the reliability of the platform layer that supports Anvil's Physical AI robotics.

Responsibilities

  • Keep robots running 24/7 and fix hardware, ROS2, and infrastructure issues at the root cause.
  • Ensure clean, stable hardware interfaces (APIs) between sensors/actuators and application layers.
  • Manage logging, metrics, debugging tooling, and data pipelines for robot-to-cloud information flow.
  • Unblock internal teams (ML, controls, manufacturing) by supporting factory testing, experimental branches, demo configurations, and hardware bring-up.
  • Close the loop on last-mile hardware and software problems.
  • Keep Anvil's leadership informed about robot learning progress and its implications for product and customers in plain language.
  • Work directly with deployment customers to understand constraints and achieve successful outcomes.

Requirements

  • Experience working directly alongside a senior platform/infrastructure or robotics systems engineer.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform root cause analysis rather than applying superficial patches.
  • Ability to move quickly, resolving bugs in days and shipping features in weeks.
  • Comfort working across hardware, middleware, and application layers.
  • Preference for incremental improvements over large rewrites.
  • Pragmatic approach to choosing reliable solutions over theoretically elegant ones.
  • Comfort debugging unclear problems with incomplete logs and multi-system interactions.
  • Ability to explain deep technical reality in plain language to non-technical audiences.
  • Familiarity with CAN, cameras, sensors, or real-time systems is a plus.
  • Experience with containers, CI/CD, and cloud pipelines is a plus.
  • Exposure to Physical AI models, robot control systems, or computer vision is a plus.
