About the Role
We are seeking an experienced and commercially minded Finance Director to lead financial reporting, regulatory compliance, financial controls, and governance within a growing fintech business. This role ensures the finance function acts as a strategic partner, combining technical accounting expertise with commercial insight to support business growth and compliance.
Responsibilities
- Prepare annual consolidated financial statements and individual companies.
- Deliver monthly finance packs for board and Exco meetings.
- Ensure audit readiness across all jurisdictions and manage external auditors.
- Address and report any audit findings appropriately.
- Implement process improvements, automation, and simplification.
- Develop and implement all finance policies and procedures.
- Oversee the general ledger and technical accounting judgments.
- Implement and strengthen the financial control framework, including segregation of duties, reconciliations, and delegated authorities.
- Own tax compliance, including corporation tax, VAT, and employment taxes.
- Own and deliver FCA regulatory reporting, including financial and own-funds returns, via RegData.
- Maintain a controlled regulatory-reporting calendar with clear preparation, review, and submission controls.
- Reconcile all regulatory returns back to the general ledger.
- Calculate and monitor own funds and capital adequacy against requirements and approved buffers.
- Support forward capital planning and prepare capital and prudential MI for the Board.
- Report to the Audit & Risk Committee on financial matters.
- Maintain robust financial and prudential controls, risk management frameworks, and compliance.
- Provide Internal Audit and Risk teams with capital and liquidity oversight.
- Maintain the finance risk register.
- Lead, develop, and set objectives for the finance team, building capability and succession cover.
- Deputise for the CFO as required, including with the Board, investors, auditors, and counterparties.
- Partner with Commercial, Product, Operations, Risk, and Technology teams to support data-driven decisions.
- Cultivate a high-performance culture aligned with company objectives.
- Assist with credit assessment of counterparties and key suppliers.
- Maintain credit policy and procedure documentation.
- Prepare and contribute to credit and exposure reporting.
- Respond to ad-hoc requests, investigate risk issues, and provide insights.
Requirements
- Qualified accountant (ACA) with strong experience in a senior finance role.
- Experience with UK GAAP (FRS 102) and IFRS.
- Experience with financial control frameworks and balance-sheet substantiation and disclosure.
- Experience with FCA regulatory reporting and RegData, including own funds and capital adequacy for e-money/payment firms.
- Knowledge of payments and e-money economics and reconciliation at volume.
- Working knowledge of UK tax for financial/payment services, including VAT partial exemption.
- Control-minded and detail-accurate with sound judgment under regulatory scrutiny and deadlines.
- A credible, developing leader who builds and stretches teams and removes key-person risk.
- Clear communicator able to present financial and prudential matters to the Board, regulator, and counterparties.
- Commercial and pragmatic approach to process improvement and automation.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Team player with a winning mentality and strong work ethic committed to continuous improvement and high performance.
- Adaptable, tenacious, and flexible, able to perform under pressure.
