About the Role
As an engineering manager, you will lead and scale the people and technology powering an autonomous scientific discovery platform. You will manage the cloud team, focusing on the complex 'bring your own cloud' (BYOC) deployments required by enterprise clients to enable large-scale drug and materials discovery.
Responsibilities
- Manage and develop the 5-person cloud team, including mentorship, career development, and hiring.
- Own client interactions regarding deployments and onboarding for enterprise partners.
- Partner with forward-deployed engineering teams to set delivery timelines and align on requirements.
- Lead the development of a strategy for secure 'bring your own cloud' (BYOC) deployments.
- Diagnose and resolve bottlenecks in the BYOC process to streamline operations.
- Develop technical and people strategies for scaling engagement capacity.
- Own technical decision-making for the BYOC product.
- Manage cross-functional communication and planning between engineering teams and stakeholders.
Requirements
- 4+ years of experience managing an engineering team and leading cross-functional initiatives.
- Prior experience working with clients in an enterprise setting.
- Proficiency in at least one systems or backend language for operator development and infrastructure tooling.
- Deep familiarity with cloud products (AWS/GCP), security, and deployment operations.
- Strong understanding of application network architecture including VPCs, DNS, secrets, and proxies.
- Hands-on experience with infrastructure-as-code tools (Terraform, Pulumi, or Crossplane) and GitOps workflows.
