About the Role

This part-time position interacts with visitors, provides information about the Museum, and safeguards visitors, staff, and assets. The role involves communicating Museum policies, ensuring adherence to protocols, and participating in the fire safety program. Availability for 24/7/365 security coverage will be required upon reopening.

Responsibilities

• Conducts opening and closing procedures, including inspections.
• Performs regular patrols and reports issues.
• Ensures adherence to security rules to prevent theft, fire, damage, and injury.
• Prevents disorder and overcrowding.
• Monitors and reports safety conditions.
• Monitors CCTV cameras.
• Operates elevators when required.
• Checks packages of persons and/or staff entering and leaving the Museum.
• Completes daily logs and security reports.
• Responds to emergency incidents.
• Performs exterior facility patrols, escorts contractors/vendors, and travels to other sites.

Requirements

• New York State Guard certificate.
• CPR/AED/FSD and/or Fire Guard certification preferred.
• Training in de-escalation, crowd control, management of aggressive behavior, physical security, conflict resolution, suspicious mail/packages, screening visitors, metal detectors, cultural sensitivity, fire alarm systems, hand-held wand, and post orders.
• Knowledge of video surveillance systems, silent alarms, access control, and other security equipment is a plus.
• Minimum of two years of security guard work or customer service experience, with museum experience preferred.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Strong organizational and planning skills.
• Proven ability to remain calm and professional in high-pressure or emergency situations.
• Experience monitoring security systems, conducting patrols, and writing incident reports.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills; able to interact with diverse visitors and staff respectfully.
• Familiarity with crowd control practices and procedures.
• Comfortable enforcing policies while maintaining a welcoming approach.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Flexibility for evenings, weekends, and holidays.
