About the Role

Kids in the Game is seeking part-time dance and creative movement specialists to teach classes in after school enrichment programs. This role involves inspiring children through sports and skill development, making a positive impact on their lives, and fostering creativity, physical activity, and self-expression.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement structured dance lessons across multiple dance styles.
  • Create progressive lesson plans that build skills, creativity, and confidence.
  • Adapt programming to meet varying age groups, ability levels, and student needs.
  • Organize informal performances or showcases when applicable.
  • Commit to partaking in all enrichment coach trainings throughout the school year.
  • Foster a fun, welcoming, and inclusive environment for all students.
  • Build positive relationships with students while encouraging teamwork, self-expression, and respect.
  • Model and promote positive character development and healthy peer interactions.
  • Use positive reinforcement and positive language at all times when engaging with the students.
  • Actively supervise all students to ensure a safe and structured environment.
  • Incorporate appropriate warm-ups, cool-downs, and injury-prevention techniques.
  • Respond appropriately to injuries, behavioral challenges, or conflicts, following organizational policies.
  • Work closely with site leadership and other program staff to align programming with overall site goals.
  • Communicate effectively with coaches and leaders regarding student participation and progress.
  • Attend staff meetings, training sessions, and professional development as required.
  • Arrive prepared, on time, and ready to actively engage with youth.
  • Be prepared in proper uniform for every day of program.
  • Uphold the organization’s mission and values both in and out of the program.
  • Demonstrate integrity, reliability, and a strong work ethic.

Requirements

  • Experience teaching creative movement to groups of elementary and/or middle school children.
  • Possess at least two years of prior teaching experience in different creative movement and dance genres.
  • Possess strong interpersonal skills to relate to younger children, work with different age groups, and partner with school staff.
  • Be available to work Monday - Friday during after school hours (2-6pm).
  • Ability to reliably commute to multiple locations throughout the week to teach classes throughout NYC.
  • Up-to-date physical and tuberculosis test documentation will be required before starting.
  • Must pass Federal and NY State background checks.
  • Willing to complete Department of Education fingerprinting before starting.
  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to walk to and from nearby program locations or parks while supervising children.
  • Ability to bend, kneel, crouch, and reach to engage with children.
  • Ability to climb stairs in school buildings or community facilities.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 25–40 pounds.
  • Ability to participate in active games and movement-based activities.
  • Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • Ability to maintain visual and auditory awareness to supervise children effectively.
