About the Role

This role is suited to candidates with strong statistical backgrounds applying advanced modelling techniques within an actuarial context. It focuses on supporting the design, production, and maintenance of a Global Capital Assumptions Framework for quantifying insurance risk for Economic Capital across Pacific Life Re. The framework will cover Mortality, Morbidity, Longevity, and Capital Solutions, incorporating centralization, cutting-edge design, market entry support, and an efficient operating model. The ideal candidate will bring creativity, innovation, and resilience to tackle complex problems, with a core component involving statistical research, model development, and simulation-based approaches to risk calibration. The role offers exposure to global markets, senior stakeholders, and diverse data sources and methodologies.

Responsibilities

  • Support the design, production, and maintenance of a Global Capital Assumptions Framework.
  • Quantify insurance risk for Economic Capital.
  • Incorporate appropriate centralization, cutting-edge design, and methodologies into the framework.
  • Support market entry and establish a target operating model for efficiency.
  • Conduct statistical research, model development, and simulation-based approaches for risk calibration.
  • Develop and validate models.
  • Translate research outputs into practical capital assumptions.

Requirements

  • Qualified Fellow of the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries (IFoA) or Society of Actuaries (or similar).
  • Strong statistical skills with hands-on experience in statistical modelling and simulation-based approaches.
  • Strong programming capability, particularly in R, with experience building transparent, reproducible analytical models.
  • Experience applying quantitative or actuarial techniques to insurance risk, capital, or pricing problems.
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills.
  • Ability to present complex statistical concepts clearly to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively within a flexible, dynamic team.
