About the Role

VHB's New York, NY office is seeking a Geomatics Intern to join our growing team for a one-month full-time position.

Responsibilities

• Perform various land surveying tasks under the direction of more senior Land Surveyors.
• Operate, transport, and set up Total Stations (Manual and Robotic), Data Collectors, GPS, and other Land Surveying equipment.
• Reconnaissance and recovery of Land Surveying markers using hand tools, brush cutting, and digging.
• Transport Land Surveying Equipment and navigate difficult terrain, environments, and wooded areas.
• Perform construction stakeout of proposed improvements.
• Maintain proper care of all survey equipment.
• Document all phases of survey work through clear field notes and data collection.
• Conduct land surveying including Boundary, ALTA/NSPS Land Title Surveys, Existing Conditions & Topographic survey, Construction layout, and utility surveys.

Requirements

• Valid Driver's license.
• Ability to operate company vehicles, including large cargo vans.
• Some overnight travel may be required.
• Currently enrolled in an undergraduate program (Geomatics, Civil Engineering, Construction Management or related field).
• VHB does not provide housing for internships.

Skills

• Proper use of GPS equipment and Manual and or Robotic Instruments.
• Fundamentals of geometry.
• Basics of Boundary Survey, Topographic, Construction, and Utility Surveys.
• Critical thinking.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with survey staff and clients.
