About the Role
This role focuses on performing molecular biology and biochemistry experiments at the benchtop for the development of engineered enzymes critical to our core technology. You will ensure a continuous supply of high-quality protein material and develop/optimize next-generation enzymatic assay protocols in a highly interdisciplinary environment.
Responsibilities
- Prepare, purify, and provide protein materials for daily experimental workflows.
- Perform bacterial protein expression and purification using gravity columns and FPLC chromatography.
- Conduct protein characterization methods including SDS-PAGE analysis, UV/Vis quantification, and BCA quantification.
- Perform routine molecular biology techniques, including bacterial transformation, plasmid purification, and basic E. coli culture.
- Develop and optimize novel assays for protein conjugation and enzymatic activity measurement.
- Execute high-throughput protein production and activity screening, including design and construction of DNA libraries.
- Process, analyze, and troubleshoot experimental data and technical issues.
- Maintain detailed records of all experimental work and analysis.
- Communicate experimental results, data analysis, and next steps to team members and leadership.
- Contribute individually and collaborate with synthesis, surface chemistry, engineering, sequencing, and bioinformatics teams.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, or a closely related field.
- Hands-on experience developing, optimizing, and executing biochemistry and molecular biology protocols in a research laboratory environment.
- Must be a creative and detail-oriented person with excellent analytical, verbal, and written communication skills.
- Exceptional collaboration skills and ability to work seamlessly in a dynamic and fast-paced environment.
- Must be able to move about the laboratory and office environment regularly, including standing and walking for extended periods (up to 6–8 hours per day).
- Must have fine motor skills and steady hands for handling instruments, operating equipment, pipetting accurately, and performing repetitive benchwork with precision.
- Must be able to lift and carry up to 40 pounds occasionally.
- Must have sufficient visual acuity for reading small print, instrument displays, and computer monitors, including close vision, color vision, and the ability to adjust focus.
- Must be able to wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) such as lab coats, gloves, and safety goggles as required.
