About the Role

The Commercial Loan Portfolio Manager is the primary contact for established borrowing clients. This position manages all aspects of portfolio management for assigned loans, cross-sells Bank products and services, and liaises with other bank departments including credit, compliance, operations, and treasury management. The role requires a strong technical mindset, AI fluency, and adaptive skills to drive success and foster human-AI teaming.

Responsibilities

  • Protect the Bank’s assets and maintain portfolio quality by adhering to lending processes, policies, procedures, legal and ethical requirements, regulations, audit requirements, and risk management guidelines.
  • Ensure all Commercial Banking Business conforms to Bank Policies and other guidelines.
  • Support internal audits and regulatory examinations by providing documentation and compliance reporting.
  • Exercise discretionary limits, ensuring credit decisions and recommendations align with sound credit-granting principles and Bank policies.
  • Adhere to Know Your Customer Rules and Bank Policies & Procedures for fraud prevention.
  • Identify and report suspicious transactions related to money laundering.
  • Complete AML/KYC due diligence in a timely manner.
  • Process credit requests, including amendments and waivers, in coordination with the credit department.
  • Oversee documentation and ongoing monitoring of asset and client performance.
  • Actively manage the portfolio to maximize return and credit quality.
  • Prepare and oversee the preparation of credit correspondence.
  • Obtain credit concurrence as a client advocate.
  • Monitor loan covenants to identify deteriorating credit conditions and compliance with loan agreements.
  • Ensure timely collection and delivery of documentation for renewals/reviews to credit.
  • Identify new lending and cross-sell opportunities by developing and maintaining strong client relationships.
  • Develop a comprehensive understanding of commercial lending clients.
  • Maintain key ongoing contact with clients in conjunction with Commercial Lenders.
  • Engage in daily dialogue with Commercial Lenders regarding new client developments.
  • Partner with treasury and deposit teams to support client needs.
  • Collaborate across finance, credit administration, and other internal groups to support portfolio reporting, internal reviews, and external deliverables.
  • Lead end-to-end due diligence for new transactions, coordinating with borrowers, legal counsel, third-party providers, and internal stakeholders.
  • Manage a large, diversified commercial loan portfolio as part of a front-line relationship management team.
  • Prepare preliminary deal screens, term sheets, and supporting materials for new and expanding credit opportunities.
  • Draft credit submission memoranda and maintain accurate pipeline tracking.
  • Conduct on-site visits and meetings with borrowers to evaluate collateral quality, management strength, and operational risks.
  • Review loan documentation for consistency with approved credit terms.
  • Coordinate and negotiate revisions with legal counsel and counterparties.
  • Manage pre-closing conditions and ensure all credit and documentation requirements are satisfied prior to funding.
  • Lead credit renewals, re-underwriting efforts, modifications, and extensions.
  • Present recommendations to senior management.
  • Monitor borrower financial performance, analyze financial statements, track covenant compliance, and identify early warning indicators.
  • Prepare executive- and board-level portfolio reporting.

Requirements

  • An undergraduate degree or equivalent work experience; Focal areas of finance, economics, or accounting preferred.
  • 3 plus years of commercial banking or equivalent experience.
  • Experience in a client facing role.
  • Strong investigatory, due diligence and risk analysis skills.
  • Familiarity with loan and other contractual documentation highly desirable.
  • Diligent, detail-oriented and thorough.
  • Persistent and willing to follow through to resolve and document issues appropriately.
  • In-depth understanding of Commercial Products, Commercial Lending Process, Commercial Lending Directives, and supporting processes and technology.
  • Working knowledge and ability to execute Risk Management practices and strategies.
  • Able to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Driven by a passion and curiosity to continuously learn how various technological systems, including AI, can enhance work.
  • Proven credit analysis experience/understanding (preferred).
  • Successful completion of a formal bank sponsored credit training program or formal training or experience in an underwriting role (preferred).
