About the Role
The Syracuse Regional Airport Authority is seeking hard-working individuals for a full-time Airport Maintenance Worker position to ensure the safe maintenance of Syracuse Hancock International Airport. This role involves performing semi-skilled tasks for the upkeep and repair of airport facilities and equipment, keeping them hazard-free and attractive. Responsibilities include operating heavy equipment, groundskeeping, cleaning, and responding to emergencies. The position requires the ability to work any shift due to 24/7 operations.
Responsibilities
- Assists Trades staff when performing airfield maintenance work.
- Inspects and repairs black top roadways, runways, taxiways and aircraft ramp areas, to include striping and painting of pavement markings.
- Performs routine grounds keeping such as cutting grass, raking, weeding, brush clearing, clearing snow during snow events, trimming shrubbery, and general repairs.
- Washes and paints walls, signs, floors and windows.
- Performs general and advanced cleaning/maintenance tasks necessary to keep vehicles, equipment, and tools in operable condition.
- Operates plows, front end loaders, skid steers, sweepers, dump trucks, tractors, sanders and other heavy equipment.
- Diagnoses and reports issues to crew leaders and mechanics.
- Operates radios to communicate clearly with FAA tower in accordance with federal regulations.
- Responds to and assists during aircraft emergencies, facility equipment failure, airfield navigational aides, airfield lighting failures, building/structure emergencies, pavement failures, hazardous incidents and related emergency situations.
Requirements
- Must be able to work any shift due to 24/7 airport operations.
- Must be able to meet the physical requirements of the position, including use of eyesight and hearing, standing, walking, kneeling, bending, use of arms, hands, and lifting up to 75 lbs.
- Two (2) years of experience working at a commercial airport.
- One (1) year of maintenance work in one (1) or more of the building or mechanical trades.
- One (1) year of maintenance work in property maintenance, landscaping, and/or snow-plowing.
- One (1) year of driving a CDL vehicle.
- At time of appointment, possession of a valid Class A or Class B commercial driver's license (CDL) with appropriate endorsements as required by the New York State Department of Motor Vehicles for the class of vehicle being operated, or a permit to obtain such license.
- Within 12 months of appointment, must obtain a valid Class A or Class B commercial driver's license (CDL).
- Must successfully complete E-Verify I9 process.
- Offer of employment is contingent on passing a pre-employment background check and security clearance, and pre-employment drug test.
- Testing positive for marijuana is a disqualifier.
