About the Role

The Patient Access Representative greets and assists patients professionally, handles incoming calls, and is cross-trained in all aspects of reception to ensure sufficient coverage. Duties may vary by office location and department.

Responsibilities

  • Greets patients and visitors in a prompt, courteous, and helpful manner.
  • Handles the patient check-in/checkout process.
  • Answers calls addressing appointment times, patient requests, and general inquiries.
  • Reviews patient charts for accuracy prior to appointments and ensures all required information is included.
  • Performs scanning and sorting within the EMR system.
  • Verifies and updates current insurance information with the patient.
  • Collects patient payments.
  • Performs all other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma
  • Interact professionally and positively with all patients, colleagues, managers, and the executive team.
  • Exhibit a high degree of maturity, integrity, loyalty, creativity, and strict confidentiality with HIPAA compliance.
  • One year of experience working in a medical practice or health insurance organization.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Prior use of EMR systems preferred.
  • Travel to other clinics as needed.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Thorough knowledge in computer information systems.
  • The employee is frequently required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; stoop, kneel, or crouch.
  • The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
