About the Role

The Research Assistant supports the planning, coordination, and promotion of The Barnard Center for Research on Women's public programming. This role involves conducting research, coordinating event logistics, and assisting with communications and outreach, serving as the primary liaison to the student network.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct research for BCRW programming.
  • Coordinate event logistics, including room setup, catering, A/V, videography, photography, ASL interpretation, and book sales.
  • Produce online events with the Creative Director and other Center staff.
  • Coordinate logistics with internal partners and external contractors.
  • Maintain a schedule for promoting the Center’s programming and publications.
  • Develop content and engage audiences for programming, publications, video productions, and projects on BCRW website, email lists, and social media channels.
  • Write and maintain event descriptions for BCRW website, Mailchimp, promotional materials, and social media.
  • Send and track programming invitations through Eventbrite and internal communications channels.
  • Manage BCRW email list through Mailchimp.
  • Collaborate with Central Communications on design and production of print materials and promotion of Center events.
  • Manage the work of undergraduate Research Assistants supporting programming.
  • Collaborate with undergraduate Research Assistants to produce BCRW's biweekly student newsletter.
  • Coordinate student workshops, meetings, and other student-facing programming.
  • Cultivate relationships with Barnard student organizations and serve as a primary liaison between BCRW and its undergraduate student community.
  • Support all operational aspects of the Scholar and Feminist Conference.
  • Maintain programming calendars, timelines, and planning documents for Center events.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Women’s and Gender Studies or a related field in the humanities or social sciences.
  • 1-2 years’ experience in higher education or non-profit in Programming Communications, and/or Public Engagement.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of intersectional social justice feminist research and activism.
  • Demonstrated experience with design programs (Canva, Photoshop, InDesign, and Adobe Acrobat).
  • Demonstrated experience with producing digital publications and social media content.
