About the Role
Rakuten Kobo Inc. is seeking a Software Engineer Co-op for an 8-month term starting September 2025. The role involves working with the Research and Development International team to deliver high-quality software to users.
Responsibilities
- Take an active part in delivering high quality software to Rakuten Kobo’s users.
Requirements
- A passion for software development and delivery
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Desire to work in a team but also be self-organising enough to be able to work on a task independently
- Constantly learning and self-improving mindset
- Some previous experience in an Object-Oriented Software Language such as C# or Java
- An understanding of T-SQL Databases
- Experience with web technologies (HTML, JavaScript, CSS)
- Some knowledge/experience with modern UI frameworks e.g. Angular, React, NextJS
- Knowledge of SDLC
- Writing and Maintaining Source Code
- Understanding of the Testing Pyramid
- Agile methodologies
- CI/CD Pipeline – Jenkins, GitHub Actions, CircleCI etc.
- Familiarity with one IDE (VS Code, JetBrains Rider)
- An understanding of server-side web technologies such as Web API and MVC
- Knowledge of using version control systems such as Git.
- Experience using an ORM framework (NHibernate, Entity Framework)
