About the Role

The Intake Specialist (IS) supports the Centralized Intake Program across the five boroughs, standardizing intake processes for Justice Initiatives (JI) programs with a trauma-informed approach. This role provides comprehensive intake, risk assessment, and screening, focusing on outreach within Domestic Violence (DV) and Homeless Family shelters in NYC. The IS acts as the first point of contact for clients, ensuring timely access to programs and resources, and promoting engagement with URI's services. Additional support is provided to various programs as needed, with outreach and intakes conducted in shelters or the community based on program requirements.

Responsibilities

Conduct universal intake, risk assessments, screenings, and supplemental intakes.
Provide referrals and resource coordination in a client-centered and trauma-informed manner.
Schedule initial interviews with participants, either in person or by phone.
Evaluate participant information against program eligibility guidelines.
Collaborate with teams to ensure continuity of services across programs.
Participate in community outreach events, networking opportunities, and partnership meetings.
Provide outreach and informational sessions to service providers and potential participants.
Work with NYC-based non-profits and community organizations to create new partnerships for referrals.
Meet weekly with Manager for supervision.
Perform other duties assigned by the Program Manager.
Collaborate with other Justice Initiative program leaders and staff, and other Program’s divisions within URI.
Input and maintain accurate data collection in a timely fashion.
Collaborate in providing accurate data reporting to funders and city organizations.
Support program leaders in any reports for funders.
Stay up to date with innovations in the field.
Participate in regular staff meetings and training.
Attend coalitions, taskforces, working groups, and committees.
Perform other duties as requested, based on department, program, and/or organizational needs.

Requirements

Bilingual (English/Spanish) required.
1 year working with survivors of domestic or gender-based violence or trafficking survivors.
Commitment to the vision and mission of Urban Resource Institute.
Demonstrated passion and commitment to public interest.
Understanding of trauma-informed, anti-oppressive, and culturally responsive services.
Strong understanding of the safety needs of survivors of violence.
Familiar with NYC public benefits and shelter systems.
Deep understanding of strength-based and survivor-centered approaches.
Strong writing and public speaking skills.
Ability to manage and organize multiple projects in a busy, pressured working environment.
Experience collaborating across programs and external sectors.
Demonstrate sensitivity and experience with/knowledge of domestic violence within and against disenfranchised communities.
Demonstrate trauma-informed and anti-oppressive approach when working with survivors of domestic and gender-based violence.
Highly motivated, with the ability to work independently and in a team.
Ability to assess priorities, take initiative, manage multiple assignments, and meet deadlines.
Must be able to exercise sound judgment, maintain confidentiality, and cope with stress and crises in a calm manner.
Must be able to travel to residential and community program spaces, and community partner sites.
Computer proficiency in Microsoft Office, Google Docs, and Apricot.
Required to read printed and handwritten materials.
Required to read information on computer screen.
Required to use computer keyboard and mouse.
Must be able to sit for extended periods of time.
Must be able to enter information in digital forms and spreadsheets.
Occasionally required to reach and bend.
Ability to travel to locations within New York City.
