About the Role

The Overnight Support Worker plays a key role in ensuring the safety and well-being of residents and the building during overnight hours within the Supportive Housing Program. This role involves providing reception and security support, monitoring the building, responding to emergencies, and implementing crisis strategies as part of a collaborative care team.

Responsibilities

  • Provides reception services to staff and residents.
  • Ensures the safety of the building and its occupants after regular business hours.
  • Enforces the zero-guest policy.
  • Monitors activities in common areas and the building's perimeter via security cameras and visual inspections, responding appropriately.
  • Implements crisis response strategies, including de-escalation and support.
  • Completes hourly rounds on participant floors.
  • Provides after-hours supportive counselling to residents when required.
  • Redirects visitors and responds to issues appropriately.
  • Performs lock-up and alarm duties according to established procedures.
  • Responds to the 24-hour resident personal alarm system and troubleshoots the emergency response system.
  • Carries out appropriate First Aid responses.
  • Works effectively with other team members to address resident and building issues.
  • Completes a detailed participant activity log and shift exchange, reporting incidents, occurrences, health and safety risks, resident community status, and interpersonal conflict.
  • Understands and responds professionally to risk management procedures and emergency situations.
  • Works in environments with potential pest control, hoarding, death and dying, and drug use.
  • Performs other duties assigned by the management team.

Requirements

  • Two-year diploma in social services or certification in security.
  • Minimum three (3) years of demonstrated experience working with older adults and/or seniors with mental health, addictions issues, and street involvement.
  • Ability to interact effectively with high-risk, marginalized, and vulnerable individuals.
  • Demonstrated ability and experience dealing with aggressive behaviours and effective de-escalation and boundary setting skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently within established agency policies and procedures.
  • Demonstrated use of good judgment.
  • Able to lift 40lbs.
