About the Role

The Barnard Archives and Special Collections is seeking applications for a part-time fellowship focused on processing archival materials and gaining hands-on experience in an academic archives and special collections setting.

Responsibilities

• Process and describe archival collections using appraisal, basic conservation, and standardized metadata such as DACS.
• Draft, revise, and enhance collection descriptions using ArchivesSpace.
• Provide in-person and remote reference and research support to students, scholars, and visitors.
• Gain a foundation in processing and an introduction to reference work.
• Participate in training on processing and reference workflows.
• Meet with staff in multiple areas of the Library.
• Utilize the Library’s resources.

Requirements

• Must be a current Barnard College employee to apply via the internal career site.
• Ability to work under the supervision of the Director of the Archives and Special Collections and with the guidance of the Senior Archivist.
• Willingness to gain hands-on experience in processing archival materials.
• Ability to provide in-person and remote reference and research support.
• Access to the Library’s resources while employed at Barnard.
• Offices are accessible to individuals with mobility disabilities.
• Bathroom facilities are available for all gender identities.
