About the Role
This position, reporting to the Production Superintendent, is responsible for the execution of production duties and directs the tasks of the workforce through Lead Hands.
Responsibilities
- Follow production protocol as established by the division Superintendent.
- Report all equipment breakdowns to division Superintendent and contact maintenance support services.
- Maintain current operational knowledge of all plant equipment for employee training and safe operation.
- Daily review of employee timecards, ensuring accurate punch in/punch out.
- Meet with employees to discuss performance and behavioral issues, documenting as required.
- Assist the division Superintendent with forecasting workforce requirements for future production goals.
- Maintain appropriate communication levels for each shift between Lead Hands, division Superintendent, and other departments.
- Assist the purchasing department with forecasting, monitoring, and analysis of material usage.
- Coordinate storage and allocation of material in the warehouse through Lead Hands.
- Troubleshoot specific production problems.
- Act as a liaison between the production shop and other departments.
- Maintain awareness and conform to supervisory responsibilities set forth in the Occupational Health and Safety Act, ensuring safe division operations and monitoring/correcting unsafe behaviors or conditions.
- Maintain appropriate housekeeping levels within the division.
- Conduct routine workplace and job safety inspections and maintain records.
- Interface with the Joint Health and Safety Committee regarding health and safety issues, including participation in regular workplace inspections.
- Report and investigate accidents, injuries, and incidents.
- Provide all information pertaining to workplace accidents and injuries to Human Resources for processing.
- Supervise the performance of outside personnel operating within the division, ensuring contractors have reviewed Health and Safety guidelines and policies and completed acknowledgment forms.
- Work in accordance with company rules and regulations and ensure directed work is performed safely.
- Lead by example, provide positive motivation, and build morale amongst all division employees.
Requirements
- Minimum 3 years' experience as a Lead Hand or Supervisor in a manufacturing environment.
- Minimum of 5 years' experience working in an industrial manufacturing environment.
- Completion of college/vocational or technical training.
- Leadership experience.
- Health and Safety understanding.
- Knowledge of the steel industry and fabrication practices.
- First Aid, H&S and Crane Operator experience.
