About the Role
Ethical Culture Fieldston School is seeking a Third Grade Science Teacher who is a dynamic and creative educator capable of inspiring and motivating students. This role requires a commitment to ethics as the core of their work and a contribution to academic success. This is a part-time position (.50 FTE) with a salary range of $37,630-$92,415.
Responsibilities
- Plan and develop a progressive, student-centered science curriculum for 3rd grade, promoting activity-based learning and utilizing the greenhouse.
- Collaborate with the science department to ensure vertical curriculum alignment.
- Meet and plan with teachers and specialists to integrate curriculum and promote STEAM initiatives.
- Communicate with parents about student development and deliver parent workshops.
- Implement behavior management strategies for academic, social, and emotional success.
- Participate in weekly grade-level and team meetings.
- Incorporate technology to enhance the learning experience.
- Collaborate with colleagues, sharing resources and communicating about curriculum and students.
- Address student behavioral issues to maintain a safe and calm environment.
- Maintain accurate student records, including grades and attendance.
- Provide encouragement for student social and emotional growth.
- Ensure confidentiality of student information.
- Attend departmental, divisional, and school-wide meetings.
- Maintain compliance with school policies, state regulations, and educational standards.
- Perform other related projects and duties as needed.
Requirements
- A Master's Degree, or be in a Master's program.
- 1-3 years of previous experience teaching elementary school children.
- Commitment to progressive education.
- Passion for teaching with a positive demeanor towards all forms of teaching and learning.
- Ability to collaborate and build strong relationships with faculty, administrators, students, parents, and the community.
- Commitment to cultural competency and fostering an inclusive environment for students of all backgrounds.
- Excellent verbal, written, and oral communication skills.
- Positive attitude and ability to listen effectively and be receptive to feedback.
- Ability to manage time effectively, stay organized, and prioritize tasks.
- Commitment to ongoing professional development and proficiency in utilizing new technologies (e.g., Google Workspace tools).
