About the Role
FICUS Health is seeking an individual to lead the Portuguese market-entry phase, validate the market, establish key stakeholder relationships, and secure initial lighthouse partnerships. This role offers genuine country ownership, evolving from an individual contributor role to full operational and P&L responsibility as the business grows. The position involves shaping market-entry strategies, adapting the platform for Portugal, and eventually building a local team.
Responsibilities
- Validate market-entry assumptions and determine how FICUS should enter and scale in Portugal.
- Analyze the market, competitive landscape, funding and reimbursement structures, procurement processes, and provider decision-making.
- Build relationships with rehabilitation providers, hospital and clinic groups, professional associations, payers, and other healthcare stakeholders.
- Lead commercial conversations, negotiate, and close initial pilot partnerships.
- Secure lighthouse partnerships and develop a repeatable commercial approach.
- Navigate Portugal’s regulatory, data-protection, procurement, and reimbursement requirements.
- Ensure market entry is compliant, clinically relevant, and commercially viable.
- Contribute a deep understanding of Portuguese rehabilitation workflows and provider needs to product development.
- Determine product adaptations and identify clinical, administrative, and operational processes for FICUS to address.
- Build the Portuguese market hands-on, supported by the founding team and German teams.
- Build the local team and assume full operational and financial responsibility for Portugal, including team leadership, operations, and P&L.
Requirements
- At least ten years of relevant experience in the Portuguese healthcare or rehabilitation market (e.g., provider/clinic leadership, healthcare consulting, market access, digital-health commercial leadership).
- Strong understanding of the Portuguese healthcare system and its national and regional decision-making structures.
- Relevant experience in rehabilitation, hospital care, or an adjacent provider market.
- Established and relevant network with credibility to open doors across key stakeholders in Portugal.
- Track record of building new markets, business units, commercial operations, or partnership structures.
- Ability to operate effectively in ambiguous environments and create a playbook.
- Combination of strategic thinking and hands-on execution.
