About the Role
The Production Shift Leader oversees daily shop floor activities to maximize production, spending approximately 90% of their time on the floor guiding operators, ensuring adherence to procedures, and maintaining product quality.
Responsibilities
- Ensure employees follow company safety policies.
- Maximize production on all machines for the shift.
- Assist with running equipment as needed.
- Ensure all products meet quality standards.
- Lead "5-Minute" meetings before the shift.
- Maintain a clean and organized plant, ensuring daily pickup of skids and trash.
- Prepare work areas for the next shift, including sweeping and stocking materials.
- Supply employees with necessary materials for their jobs.
- Train Operators on new production and quality procedures.
- Validate employee training for assigned tasks using the "I Do, We Do, You Do" method.
- Conduct random workstation audits to ensure procedural compliance.
- Ensure operators are at their machines and producing at the start and end of shifts, and until designated wash-up times.
- Participate in problem-solving and continuous improvement activities.
- Participate in Lean kaizen events and promote lean HPS concepts.
- Mentor and discipline employees as required.
- Work overtime as needed.
- Follow instructions from the APU Manager.
- Communicate professionally with all plant personnel.
- Maintain responsibilities of a Production Operator or other assigned duties.
- Monitor workplace operations for compliance with environmental, health, and safety rules and respond to non-conformances.
- Perform risk assessments and consult with workers on environmental, health, and safety issues.
Requirements
- Previous experience in a production environment is preferred.
- Basic computer/PC skills are a plus.
- Must be able to work in a non-airconditioned environment for a minimum of eight (8) hours per day.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality with sensitive information.
- Ability to work with chemicals in the proper environment and while wearing PPE.
