About the Role

As the Underwriting Technical and Quality Consultant, Special Lines, you will leverage your subject matter expertise for commercial underwriting. You will build and maintain knowledge and skill levels within the commercial underwriting team through coaching and mentoring. You will act as a team lead for complex underwriting inquiries and assist in the development and delivery of training materials.

Responsibilities

  • Coach and mentor underwriters nationally to develop underwriting skills and knowledge.
  • Support underwriters' skill development in risk assessment, negotiation, and application of terms, conditions, coverage, and rate.
  • Implement established direction for specific product portfolios, including training and coaching commercial insurance underwriters.
  • Assist in developing technical underwriting material with Special Risks, Product Specialists, Risk Engineering, Loss Control, and Portfolio Specialists.
  • Deliver technical training to underwriters.
  • Provide direction on complex underwriting inquiries and coach underwriters in risk assessment, negotiation, and application of terms, conditions, coverage, and rate.
  • Conduct audits on underwriters and complete reports for the supervisor and staff.
  • Lead the escalation and referral process to Special Risks and Federated, and escalate to the National Technical Manager as required.
  • Act as Subject Matter Expert to represent the operations area on projects/initiatives, providing technical expertise and advisory resources.

Requirements

  • Have 7 years of successful underwriting experience in commercial.
  • Have working experience mentoring, coaching, and/or providing guidance to others.
  • Proficiency in English is required.

Salary/Compensations

  • $72,847 to $121,411
