About the Role

Trainline's Customer Growth engineering team builds customer-facing features and experiences that make Trainline the go-to choice for rail travel. As Engineering Manager, you will lead a cross-functional team, foster a culture of quality and growth, and co-own the team roadmap with product and data partners. This role emphasizes data-driven decision-making and A/B testing.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and develop a cross-functional engineering team, building an inclusive and high-performing environment.
  • Partner closely with product managers and data colleagues to co-own the team roadmap.
  • Champion a high quality bar across the end product and codebase.
  • Drive a data-driven approach to delivery, embedding A/B testing and experimentation.
  • Manage a mixed team of permanent employees and contractors.
  • Advocate for and integrate AI tooling into engineering workflows.
  • Remove blockers, manage dependencies, and represent your team with senior stakeholders.
  • Build strong hiring, onboarding, and career development practices.

Requirements

  • Proven experience as an engineering manager with a track record of leading software engineering teams.
  • Strong people management skills, with the ability to build trust and create psychological safety.
  • Experience working closely with product managers to shape and deliver a roadmap.
  • Solid understanding of data-driven product development, including A/B testing and experimentation.
  • High quality bar for engineering standards and customer-facing output.
  • Experience working with AI productivity tools and enthusiasm for adoption.
  • Experience managing teams with permanent staff and contractors.
  • Strong stakeholder management skills, with the ability to communicate clearly.
