About the Role

The Alternative Sentencing Worker I (ASW) position offers a unique opportunity to make a significant impact on individuals and the community by assisting clients with substance abuse and mental health issues within the criminal justice system. This role involves working as part of a defense team to assess client needs, prepare alternative sentences with a treatment component, and advocate for clients facing criminal offenses related to substance abuse or mental health.

Responsibilities

Conduct assessments to determine client-specific needs.
Prepare alternative sentences, typically involving a treatment component (inpatient, outpatient, short or long-term mental health, or substance abuse treatment).
Work as a member of the defense team in the London Trial Office.
Assist clients charged with criminal offenses related to substance abuse or mental health.
Listen to clients, explore options, and advocate for clients.
Multitask and prioritize.
Work on a team.
Communicate well both verbally and through written documents and reports.
Work alone and be self-motivated.

Requirements

Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license prior to employment.
Must maintain any required licensure(s), certification(s), or other credentials for the length of employment.

Education Level

Graduate of an accredited college or university with a master's degree in social work, sociology, psychology, family studies, counseling or a related field.
A bachelor's degree supplemented by one year of professional social work, substance use disorder, or mental health experience will substitute for the required education.

Salary/Compensations

$39,284.88 - $58,927.20 Annually
