About the Role

Neion Bio is seeking an experienced, efficient, and organized manager to lead animal operations at their Farmingdale site. This role involves managing a small avian care team, overseeing all aspects of animal operations, and performing daily hands-on avian care. Adaptability is essential in this fast-paced startup environment.

Responsibilities

  • Own all day-to-day animal operations, ensuring safety, consistency, and adherence to protocols.
  • Develop, implement, and optimize online tracking systems for operations and maintain detailed electronic records.
  • Plan and schedule facility capacity, lead room setup, organization, redesign, and expansion.
  • Establish and ensure adherence to barrier and isolation workflows.
  • Create a crisis management site plan.
  • Provide projections, manage inventories, and coordinate vendor contracts for deliveries, waste pick-up, and facility services.
  • Lead, manage, and develop a team of animal care technicians, including scheduling, training, and performance management.
  • Regularly work alongside the animal care team in handling animals, egg collection, room setup, cleaning, husbandry support, and operational coverage.
  • Confirm daily animal welfare checks are performed and engage veterinary support for preventative and emergency interventions.
  • Train staff, confirm compliance, and schedule testing to enforce biosecurity and biosurveillance programs.

Requirements

  • Experience managing or supervising animal care technicians, veterinary technicians, farm staff, or other operational personnel in a related field.
  • Effective communicator and mentor engaging personnel across a range of roles.
  • Hands-on experience working in animal operations, laboratory animal facilities, poultry facilities, breeding colonies, research farms, or a comparable regulated animal-care environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to own complex daily operations, including scheduling, staffing, recordkeeping, facility organization, and coordination across multiple workstreams.
  • Strong working knowledge of animal husbandry, animal handling, welfare monitoring, sanitation, biosecurity and testing, and facility operations.
  • Experience building or improving electronic operational systems, schedules, and tracking tools.
  • Comfort working in a small, fast-moving organization where leaders are expected to remain hands-on and assist with routine operational work when needed.
