About the Role

As Project Development Engineer, you’ll take ownership of the planning and development phase of transmission projects – the stage where strategic decisions are made, design options are evaluated, and project feasibility is established. You’ll be the driving force behind option studies, cost estimation, stakeholder coordination, and technical design management for projects that will shape the grid for decades to come.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the development of multiple transmission projects through feasibility, options analysis, and firm offer submissions.
  • Prepare comprehensive technical feasibility studies and scoping reports covering scope, cost, schedule, risk, environmental, property, and other stakeholder considerations.
  • Coordinate project cost estimates across decision gates in line with TransGrid’s project management framework.
  • Drive innovation and value engineering across the project lifecycle to optimise cost, safety, and operational performance.
  • Develop and maintain project schedules, risk registers, and work scopes for customer projects.
  • Coordinate with internal engineering teams, external consultants, environmental specialists, and community stakeholders.
  • Identify outage requirements and integrate them into project plans.
  • Report on project status and performance to Development Leads.

Requirements

  • A tertiary engineering degree in a relevant discipline (electrical, civil, structural, or related).
  • Demonstrated experience coordinating engineering projects, including design management, environmental assessment, and stakeholder engagement.
  • Proven ability to develop project schedules and cost estimates.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities with excellent report writing and communication skills.
  • Working knowledge of relevant Australian Standards, legislation, and government policy frameworks governing engineering design and environmental assessment.
