About the Role

Transgrid is seeking a Senior / Project Engineer with high-voltage substation experience to manage the engineering aspects of a portfolio of 330kV and 500kV projects in Central West NSW. This role involves technical engineering and project management, focusing on RFI responses, design coordination, as-built processes, and asset acceptance.

Responsibilities

  • Manage RFI responses, develop and review project specifications, and coordinate design responses for construction issues.
  • Keep Issued For Construction (IFC) designs current to applicable standards.
  • Serve as the technical point of contact for contractors and engage with engineering and System Operations teams on technical matters.
  • Coordinate protection and control upgrades at 330kV sites and secondary system changes at their remote ends.
  • Manage the engineering interface through the 500kV switching station commissioning program, including sequencing, outage coordination, and technical readiness.
  • Maintain IFC designs across the portfolio and manage work-as-executed and as-built drawing processes.
  • Set up project plans, hold budgets and schedules, coordinate procurement and stakeholders, and report directly to the Project Manager on assigned projects.
  • Prepare weekly and monthly project status reports and earned value assessments.
  • Flag cost and schedule issues early.
  • Maintain effective working relationships with internal teams and external consultants.
  • Communicate clearly and follow through on commitments.

Requirements

  • An engineering degree or solid industry experience on large-scale projects with hands-on knowledge of high-voltage substation construction.
  • Ability to independently manage the technical side of a delivery program.
  • Capability to handle contractors and consultants and run a project without close supervision.
  • Demonstrated experience managing the engineering function on high-voltage substation projects, including RFI management, IFC coordination, design responses for construction, and as-built processes.
  • Practical understanding of secondary systems, including protection and control.
  • Experience coordinating secondary systems work alongside primary plant construction.
  • Familiarity with the interface between substation construction and transmission network operations, including outage coordination and working on or near live assets.
  • Experience managing construction contracts, including scope, variations, and contractor coordination.
  • Ability to work autonomously across multiple concurrent projects and deliver to deadlines without close supervision.
  • High standard of written and verbal communication, with the ability to produce clear technical reports, project status updates, and earned value assessments.
  • Knowledge of Australian Standards, relevant legislation, and government policy guidelines for engineering and construction projects.
  • Comfortable with regular travel to Central West NSW project sites.
