About the Role
The Media Relations Manager is responsible for coordinating and managing the club’s contracted media requirements for the men’s first-team, and securing additional media coverage. This role involves working with players to meet contractual media activity and attending all home and away matches. The successful candidate will liaise with media rights holders, the Premier League, UEFA, FA, EFL, national and local media, and internal stakeholders to ensure positive representation of the club and its players.
Responsibilities
- Managing and delivering the Premier League & UEFA media rights contract, fulfilling player obligations with UK and overseas broadcast rights holders, and ensuring compliance with match week media obligations.
- Managing and delivering matchday media obligations at all home and away matches, ensuring compliance with matchday protocols.
- Managing and delivering non-match related contractual obligations, such as pre- and mid-season media access days, extended interviews, ‘masterclasses’ and ‘behind-the-scenes’ sessions.
- Developing strong relationships with key personnel at the Premier League, Premier League Studios, and broadcast partners.
- Identifying and managing pro-active, non-contractual media activity to deliver positive PR for players and the club.
- Researching and producing briefing materials ahead of all media activity for players/interviewees.
- Discussing media opportunities and requirements with players.
- Ensuring new and emerging players are aware of media requirements and expectations.
- Developing and maintaining a strong relationship with the club’s Player Liaison team to co-ordinate additional activity, including community and commercial initiatives.
- Managing day-to-day media enquiries and conducting daily media monitoring alongside the club’s appointed media agency.
- Working as part of a wider Marketing & Communications team, attending weekly meetings to discuss work streams, creative ideas, and campaign planning.
- Supporting marketing and club media initiatives.
- Overseeing the Press Office Administrator in managing media operations on matchdays, the PL and UEFA media accreditation system, and logistics for the manager’s pre-match press conferences.
- Supporting the Marketing & Comms executive for the Women’s team at key points of the season.
- Distributing club announcements/releases to the media database and monitoring the media enquiries email account.
- Performing other duties and responsibilities as required by the line manager.
- Upholding and promoting the Club’s policies and procedures, including Health and Safety, Safeguarding, and Equal Opportunities.
Requirements
- Minimum of three years experience in a press office.
- Previous experience in a football environment.
- Experience of working with elite athletes or high-profile individuals in highly pressurized environments.
- Outstanding attention to detail.
- Excellent knowledge of the media industry/landscape.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office, record keeping, and producing monthly department reports on delivery.
- A high level of commitment and flexibility, as often work is required outside of office hours.
- A positive, proactive, ‘can do’ attitude.
- Strong team ethic.
- Previous experience of delivering a broadcast media rights contract (desirable).
