About the Role

NYC Kids RISE seeks a highly organized, detail-oriented Community Engagement Associate with strong communication skills to support the execution of our direct parent engagement strategy. The role involves engaging families, explaining the Save for College Program, and assisting them with foundational steps, with a focus on savings account options. Associates will also educate parents on engagement opportunities and provide referrals to supportive services.

Responsibilities

Become fluent in Save for College Program and college savings account materials to present information, answer questions, and work 1:1 with parents.
Conduct direct outreach to parents via in-person, phone, text, and email to explain the program and encourage engagement.
Deliver presentations and facilitate informational workshops about the Save for College Program.
Provide one-on-one support for parents/guardians to view scholarship accounts, open/link college savings accounts, and make deposits.
Staff the NYC Kids RISE Hotline to answer questions, sign up parents for workshops, and assist with program steps.
Support the logistics, preparation, execution, and follow-up for Save for College Program events.
Ensure timely follow-up and excellent customer service, including appropriate referrals to other services.
Work on administrative and logistical projects supporting the direct parent engagement strategy, including sending text messages.
Provide feedback and generate ideas for improving parent understanding and completion of program steps.
Represent NYC Kids RISE in interactions with community stakeholders like school and community-based organization partners.
Complete timely data entry for all interactions with parents, workshop attendance, and hotline calls.
Maintain strict adherence to data security and privacy policies, protecting Confidential Information.
Participate in advancing racial equity and anti-oppression in organizational and program operations and practices.

Requirements

Bilingual in English and Mandarin (Required)
2-4 years of related work experience
Interest in or previous work experience in financial empowerment, college and career readiness, and/or community organizing
Ability to lead presentations and facilitate workshops or events in English and Mandarin
Strong oral and written communications skills
Proficiency in MS/Google Suite
Familiarity with Client Relationship Management databases
Proficiency in Zoom / Google Meet / MS Teams or other video meeting or webinar technology
Availability for some evening, early morning, and weekend events

Skills

Ability to break down complex concepts in a way that is easy to understand in English and Mandarin
Ability to walk someone through the technical aspects of a registration, enrollment or application process in English and Mandarin
Previous experience with project management

The Save for College Program’s model is intended to drive neighborhood-level changes in economic opportunity and mobility by building individual and collective financial assets, reinforcing college- and career-going expectations, and strengthening social capital, networks, and infrastructure in neighborhoods across New York City.
Nearly every elementary public school student in New York City will have an NYC Scholarship Account invested in a 529 college savings plan, regardless of income or immigration status.
Currently, more than 380,000 students have NYC Scholarship Accounts with more than ~$85 million designated for their educational futures.
The City announced an historic investment towards our vision increasing the initial seed amount for kindergartners from $100 to $1000.
The Administration has also included the Program in the Mayor’s Housing Plan calling for philanthropic partners to invest directly into the Accounts of students living in NYCHA developments.
NYC Public Schools has launched efforts to further integrate the Program as a tool for college and career readiness, strengthening school community ties and financial education & empowerment across ~1000 elementary schools.
