About the Role

Vera House, Inc. is a human service agency providing domestic and sexual violence prevention and intervention services. This role will provide intervention and case management services to assist survivors of violence in obtaining permanent housing and supportive services during homelessness, eviction, and housing stabilization. The position involves teamwork with advocates and care coordinators to offer crisis intervention, advocacy, referral, and coordination for survivors at the Agency’s main shelter.

Responsibilities

Assist survivors in locating and retaining housing while addressing immediate needs, including emotional support, promoting healthy relationships, and ensuring safety and security.
Provide referrals to support services for stabilizing households in permanent housing, including substance use disorder, financial security, public benefits, education, employment, parenting, mental health, and physical well-being.
Advocate and collaborate with landlords, housing programs, and department of social services.
Integrate the needs related to domestic and sexual violence dynamics, trauma impact, and crisis into resident support and management.
Provide and support on-call (after hours/weekend) needs on a scheduled rotation for Vera House shelter.
Maintain resident documentation using software databases.
Answer and provide assistance with support-line services.
Work closely with staff to obtain client feedback and ensure adequate services, including addressing client safety concerns.
Maintain strong professional boundaries, ensuring compliance, ethical, and appropriate interactions.
Assist with additional duties as assigned.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in social work, human services, or related field OR equivalent combination of education and experience.
Minimum 2-4 years' experience in human services/lived experience, counseling, residential setting, or the ability to be trained.
Knowledge of domestic and sexual violence including elder abuse and ability to develop positive, compassionate relationships with victims/survivors through a trauma-informed approach.
Knowledge of community-based service delivery systems, particularly local housing systems like Section 8, supportive, and transitional living services.
Ability to work in a crisis-oriented setting, provide trauma-informed care, and knowledge of crisis intervention techniques.
Proficient planning, organizational, time management, and administrative skills.
Strong conflict resolution skills with both internal and external contacts.
Must possess a valid New York State Driver’s License and have access to a reliable vehicle for travel and client transportation.
Ability to assist clients in identifying, understanding, and prioritizing problems and obtaining information on available resources and intervention systems.
Adaptability to be flexible and change priorities as needed.
Displayed ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
Completion of a satisfactory background check.
