About the Role

CIR is seeking a contractor to contribute to the Sudan Witness project by applying open-source investigation techniques, preparing training materials, and delivering training on OSINT, data visualization, digital security, and vicarious trauma mitigation. The role involves collaborating with partners and contributing to project outputs.

Responsibilities

• Apply open-source investigation and analytical techniques to collect, verify, and analyze data from open sources.
• Record information in databases, ensuring proper sourcing and comprehensive topic capture.
• Contribute to the timely delivery of high-quality project outputs, including reports and briefings.
• Prepare bespoke training materials and conduct pre/post-training assessments.
• Oversee or conduct joint open-source research projects with external partners.
• Provide mentorship to external partners on OSINT techniques, visualization, digital security, and vicarious trauma mitigation.
• Deliver in-person and remote training on OSINT, data visualization, digital security, and vicarious trauma mitigation.
• Work closely with other trainers and investigators.
• Contribute to internal reviews of effectiveness and identify opportunities for project efficiency improvements.

Requirements

• Proven track record in OSINT-driven investigations, including geolocation, chronolocation, and social media monitoring.
• Demonstrable experience supporting external partners in conducting digital investigations is highly desirable.
• Prior experience conducting OSINT research on Sudan and/or East Africa.
• Proficiency in satellite imagery analysis, with experience using tools such as Planet.
• Extensive experience delivering OSINT training and mentorship, both in-person and remote.
• Ability to work independently, including time management and task prioritization.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to translate technical terminology for lay audiences.
• Willingness to travel to deliver capacity building and training in-person.
