About the Role

ECS is seeking a detail-oriented Specification Writer to join our Southwest Facilities team. You will guide design teams on product selection, prepare and edit construction specifications, ensure code compliance, and coordinate with architects, engineers, and consultants throughout all project phases.

Responsibilities

• Manage specification projects and resolve technical and administrative issues.
• Provide guidance to architectural design firms on product selection and design considerations.
• Review drawings and project information to write and edit specifications.
• Ensure project compliance with institutional guidelines, firm standards, and building codes.
• Plan, schedule, and prepare construction specifications for project milestones.
• Prepare and review procurement and contracting requirements, including Division 01 sections.
• Coordinate and review consultant technical specifications for conformance with firm standards.
• Perform product research and assist designers with material selections.
• Collaborate with internal Project Architects and engineering disciplines on project manual preparation.
• Maintain awareness of building technology, product developments, and industry trends.
• Assist construction administration staff with product submittal reviews and substitution requests.
• Manage multiple projects simultaneously to meet deadlines.
• Host or attend project discussions with clients and provide follow-up reports.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED.
• 6 years of related architectural or commercial interiors experience.
• Minimum 3 years of experience in writing, editing, and developing AIA MasterFormat 3-part specifications.
• Membership in Construction Specifications Institute (CSI).
• Valid driver's license if driving on behalf of ECS.

Skills

• Researching product materials, fabricators, and manufacturers.
• Knowledge of architectural design, engineering coordination, and construction methodology.
• Proficiency in reading construction drawings, programs, and criteria documents.
• Advanced Microsoft Word proficiency.
• Proficiency in Bluebeam Revu and Studio.
• Proficiency in Adobe Acrobat.
• Strong design aptitude.
