About the Role

As a Bike Mechanic, you will assemble, maintain, and repair bicycles, ensuring adherence to MEC's productivity, quality, and safety guidelines. You will also mentor staff on bike repair processes, uphold MEC's sustainability principles, and assist in the ski shop during winter months. Your role involves engaging with members, providing expert advice, managing inventory, and ensuring members receive the right products and support for their outdoor activities.

Responsibilities

Provides member service according to SERVE standard, in shop/sales floor as required.
Keeps the working space organized, safe, clean, and efficient.
Assembles bicycles within the MEC standards.
Completes basic repairs including wheel truing, internal cable routing, drive train adjustment, and bottom bracket/headset selection and installation within quality guidelines and time standards.
Installs and maintains all parts related to the proper function of a bicycle.
Installs and maintains bike accessories such as fenders, racks, and bottle cages.
Provides support in diagnosing issues relating to bicycle function and suggests solutions.
Ensures the final inspection and quality assurance of new and repaired bikes meets or exceeds MEC standards.
Fulfills necessary documentation and performs other administrative duties according to MEC standards.
Sources parts as per MEC standards for work orders.
Manages inventory and performs data entry.
Tracks hours worked within each function of the bike shop.
Maintains MEC specified productivity standards.
Adheres to all loss prevention policies and procedures.
Performs other duties as assigned based on business needs.

Requirements

Minimum 1 year of work experience as a Bicycle Mechanic in a bicycle shop.
Availability as per MEC availability guideline based on status.
Demonstrate fluency in parts terminology, service techniques, and parts compatibility.
Demonstrate the ability to build a bicycle in the hiring process.
Proficient computer skills utilizing D365 systems.
Must be able to sit, stand, walk, lift, carry, reach, push, and pull for extended periods of time.
Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
Ability to climb ladders.
Fine motor skills and dexterity.
