About the Role

The Associate Principal Mechanical Engineer provides strategic leadership, technical excellence, and operational oversight for complex building projects. This senior role leads multidisciplinary teams, serves as a technical authority, and drives business development while mentoring staff and contributing to firmwide initiatives.

Responsibilities

  • Lead, manage, and organize multidisciplinary project teams
  • Create and utilize tools for project planning, forecasting, and progress tracking
  • Provide technical leadership as Lead Engineer and act as Engineer of Record
  • Secure new work to meet booking and billing goals
  • Participate in firm leadership and management
  • Interview for projects and communicate design options to stakeholders
  • Develop and maintain client relationships
  • Lead business development activities
  • Present to clients, staff, and at industry events
  • Provide mentorship, training, and development for staff
  • Contribute to company standards and optimize technical operations
  • Enforce the project quality management plan

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering
  • 15+ years of industry experience
  • Relevant professional credential such as PE, CPD, or RCDD
  • Significant experience in a management and leadership role
  • Proven ability to lead and manage projects successfully and profitably
  • Strong project leadership skills including billing, reporting, resource allocation, and scheduling
