About the Role

WeTheHobby is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to help shape the company's technical foundation by modernizing the platform, improving developer velocity, and architecting the next generation of systems. This is a highly collaborative role working directly with the SVP of Product Engineering.

Responsibilities

  • Architect the evolution of the platform from a monolith into a scalable, service-oriented architecture.
  • Design and implement resilient backend services and APIs using modern engineering patterns.
  • Replace manual operational workflows with reliable, automated software solutions.
  • Build integrations between WTH and partners including inventory systems, marketplaces, grading services, and live commerce platforms.
  • Leverage AI tools such as Cursor, Claude, and LLMs to accelerate development, modernize legacy code, automate documentation, and prototype new capabilities.
  • Increase system observability, resilience, and operational visibility across the platform.
  • Mentor engineers through architecture discussions, code reviews, and technical leadership.
  • Establish engineering best practices.
  • Work closely with Product, Operations, and business stakeholders to solve complex operational challenges with thoughtful software design.

Requirements

  • 8+ years building and operating production software systems.
  • Strong experience building backend services using modern object-oriented or service-oriented technologies (e.g., Python/FastAPI, Go, Node.js, or similar).
  • Experience designing and evolving distributed systems, service-oriented architectures, or microservices.
  • PostgreSQL or strong relational database design and optimization experience.
  • Experience with AWS cloud infrastructure (EC2, RDS, Fargate, S3, or similar cloud-native services).
  • Experience with modern software engineering practices including CI/CD, automated testing, code reviews, observability, and Infrastructure as Code.
  • Experience modernizing or decomposing legacy systems into scalable services is highly desirable.
  • Experience using AI development tools (Cursor, Claude Code, GitHub Copilot) as part of your daily engineering workflow.
