About the Role
The Screener provides security screening to prevent the introduction of weapons, explosives, and other dangerous items into the air transportation system using screening equipment. This role is responsible for day-to-day air cargo screening functions as outlined by Nippon Express and the Transportation Security Administration, ensuring security for passengers and staff.
Responsibilities
- Identify prohibited objects in cargo by use of explosive trace detection, x-ray machines, physical search, Metal Detection and other methodology.
- Prepare and maintain required reports, forms, and records.
- Physically inspect x-rayed cargo, crates, and other containers.
- Courteously and respectfully interact with Supervisor, Managers, and TSA Auditors.
- Verify necessary documentation for transportation of cargo.
- Maintain focus and awareness in a deadline-driven, fast-paced environment.
- Take proper protocol upon detection of a questionable or dangerous item.
- Immediately notify Federal Security Director and/or Nippon Express Security Coordinator when necessary.
- Ensure safe handling of discovered dangerous or deadly weapons/objects until arrival of the Federal Security Director or Law Enforcement Officer.
- Maintain data log sheet daily.
- Treat all sensitive and company sensitive information as confidential.
- Effectively communicate clear and concise information verbally and/or in writing.
- Report all alarms and other major incidents to Supervisor immediately.
- Ship and receive cargo according to applicable regulatory and/or voluntary association's requirements: TSA, C-TPAT and/or TAPA.
- Perform product selection and package preparation for shipment.
- Keep Supervisor informed of needs and problems in screening areas.
- Communicate safety hazards and equipment problems to Supervisor and Managers.
- Read, write, understand, and carry out instructions in English.
- Adhere to company policies and procedures.
- Maintain cleanliness of immediate work area and report maintenance needs.
- Travel domestically to attend required TSA trainings and conferences as needed.
- Perform other duties as required by company and operational needs.
Requirements
- Must be either a U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident per TSA guidelines.
- High School Diploma, equivalency certificate or significant relevant or appropriate working experience.
- Approximately 2 years department or industry experience.
- At least 2 years experience in air cargo handling.
- At least 2 years forklift experience.
- Must be able to successfully complete TSA training and pass the STA background application.
