About the Role

Porter, a venture of One Workplace, is seeking a Lead Barista to prepare and serve beverages, manage customer interactions, and lead a team. We focus on creating human-centered spaces that foster meaningful relationships and promote productivity and creativity.

Responsibilities

  • Prepares and serves hot and cold beverages, such as coffee, blended coffee, and tea, to patrons; correctly customizes orders as requested.
  • Describes product details to customers in partnership with Onyx coffee.
  • Receives and processes customer payments.
  • Serves prepared baked goods including pastries.
  • Ensures customer service stations are properly stocked with paper products or beverage preparation items.
  • Cleans and sanitizes all equipment, utensils, dishes, and work areas.
  • Cleans and sanitizes service and seating areas.
  • Ensures proper functioning of freezers, refrigerators, and heating by routinely checking temperatures in that equipment.
  • Stocks supplies or retail products; inventory, order, or receive products as directed.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
  • Accurately handle POS transactions and orders, ensuring efficiency and accuracy in a high-paced setting.
  • Maintain a friendly and engaging attitude while interacting with customers and fellow team members.
  • Lead, coach and support barista team members during daily operations.
  • Train new employees on drink preparation, customer service standards, and café procedures.
  • Ensure consistency in beverage quality, presentation, and food safety standards.

Requirements

  • Must successfully complete training in food preparation, food service skills, and customer service procedures.
  • 5 years or more of barista experience.
  • 1-2 years of experience in a customer-facing role, preferably within hospitality or food service.
  • CA Food Handler’s Permit required.
  • Experience working in both counter-service and full-service settings is a plus.
  • Excellent oral and written communication and organizational skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to work as a team with internal departments, external vendors, suppliers, and customers.
  • Self-motivated and able to make decisions and exercise prudent judgement with minimal guidance.
  • Ability to follow all safe food handling procedures and sanitation practices.
  • Good memory to manage multiple orders simultaneously and recall faces, names, and preferences of frequent patrons.
  • Ability to serve customers quickly, efficiently, and kindly.
  • Flexibility to work nights and holidays as required by business needs.
  • Reliable transportation required.
